Auditions for 'Waiting for Godot'

In Waiting for Godot, two wandering tramps, Vladimir and Estragon, wait by a lonely tree, to meet up with Mr. Godot, an enigmatic figure in a world where time, place and memory are blurred and meaning is where you find it. The tramps hope that Godot will change their lives for the better. Instead, two eccentric travelers arrive, one man on the end of the other's rope. The results are both funny and dangerous in this existential masterpiece.

ROLES:

Vladimir - Male 30-55, any ethnicity.

One of the two main characters of the play. Estragon calls him Didi, and the boy addresses him as Mr. Albert. He seems to be the more responsible and mature of the two main characters.

Estragon - Male 30-55, any ethnicity.

The second of the two main characters. Vladimir calls him Gogo. He seems weak and helpless, always looking for Vladimir's protection. He also has a poor memory, as Vladimir has to remind him in the second act of the events that happened the previous night.

Pozzo - Male 20-30, any ethnicity

He passes by the spot where Vladimir and Estragon are waiting and provides a diversion. In the second act, he is blind and does not remember meeting Vladimir and Estragon the night before.

Lucky - Male 40+, any ethnicity

Pozzo's slave, who carries Pozzo's bags and stool. In Act I, he entertains by dancing and thinking. However, in Act II, he is dumb.

Boy - Male 12-30, any ethnicity

He appears at the end of each act to inform Vladimir that Godot will not be coming that night. In the second act, he insists that he was not there the previous night.

Theatre Huntsville auditions are open to the public and are held at the Studio Theatre at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.

All actors participate on a volunteer basis. Typically, rehearsals take place three times weekly, with seven performances over a two week period. Upon auditioning, candidates will fill out an availability questionnaire. Candidate availability is a factor in final casting decisions.
