NOTE THE LOCATION

  • Community of Christ Church

  • Address: 7510 Whitesburg Dr, Huntsville, AL 35802

  • Auditions will be in the Fellowship Hall.

  • Park in the back of the building.

WHO?

  • Everyone ages 18+.

  • All roles are available, casting is open, and newcomers are welcome and encouraged.

  • There is no fee to participate in Theatre Huntsville productions.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE?

  • Please prepare a 32-bar cut of a song in a similar style to the show, but not from the show.

  • Please bring EITHER sheet music or an instrumental track on a flash drive. We will have a CD Player and a laptop.

  • Auditionees will also read scenes from the script in a group setting

  • Info on all known conflicts from April to end of June that would interfere with evening or weekend rehearsals/performances.

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR?

  • Come dressed to move. You will be doing a short movement sequence. 

PRODUCTION DATES

  • This show is scheduled to run June 14-23, 2024 (8 performances) at the Von Braun Center Playhouse

  • Rehearsals will begin in April.

AVAILABLE ROLES

  • Audrey (Female, 25 to 35): Bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like, secret love of Seymour's life. She has poor self-worth and education, but incredibly good looks and a sweet and vulnerable demeanor.

    • Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: G#3

  • Seymour Krelborn (Male, 25 to 35): An insecure, put-upon florist's clerk and eventual hero. He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills.

    • Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: A2

  • Mr. Mushnik (Male, 55 to 65): The seasoned owner of the failing East Side flower shop and Seymour's nosy boss. He is profit-driven, greedy, and manipulative.

    • Vocal range top: F4 Vocal range bottom: G2

  • Orin Scrivello (Male, 30 to 40): An egotistical dentist with a passion for leather and sadistic tendencies. Audrey's abusive boyfriend, who is targeted by Seymour.

    • Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: G2

  • The Plant (Audrey II) Puppet. An anthropomorphic cross between a Venus flytrap and an avocado, the plant has an appetite for human flesh that is appeased by Seymour. Puppeteer doubles as other sizes of the plant.

  • Voice Of The Plant (Male, 20 to 50): An actor/vocalist located offstage. The voice is that of a conniving, street-smart 'villain.' A funky Rhythm and Blues voice is best.

    • Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: G2

  • Chiffon (Female, 20 to 35): Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are Black street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality.

    • Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: Ab3

  • Ronnette (Female, 20 to 35): Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon are Black street urchins, acting as the occasional Greek Chorus. Young, hip, and smart, these girls are the only ones who have a grip on reality.

  • Chorus: men and women, all ages. Will play various parts throughout the show.

SYNOPSIS:

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!
