A TUNA CHRISTMAS
by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard
In this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna, it’s Christmas in the third smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including hot competition in the annual lawn display contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of “A Christmas Carol” is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. Many colorful Tuna denizens, some you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun.
Produced by Special Arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
Recommended for all audiences.
A Tuna Christmas will be performed at the Von Braun Center Playhouse on Nov 11, 12, 17, 18 & 19, 2016 @ 7:30 p.m. and Nov 13 & 19, 2016 @ 2 p.m. Tickets for A Tuna Christmas are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors (65+), students, and active duty military and can be purchased by calling the box office at 256-536-0807, ask about group rates and handicapped seating.
From our Director:
Not all southern comedies are created equal. Some indulge in stereotypes so much they become caricatures. They struggle to find the truth in the characters, and the audience is encouraged to laugh at the expense of truly identifying with the emotional center of the play itself. However, a well written southern comedy, can strike a chord that resonates with the audience, and, for those of us that were raised in the rural south, transport us back in time to communities where neighbors were more like family and the local AM radio disc jockey was the closest thing to a regional celebrity. “A Tuna Christmas” does just that.
This show transports the audience to the third smallest town in Texas: Tuna during the 1980s. There they meet 22 characters played by two actors and for 2 hours are treated to quick changes and long laughs. Each character is unique and very likely may remind you of someone you met in the past. It is Theatre Huntsville’s hope that you enjoy connecting with the citizens of Tuna as much as we enjoy bringing them to life for you.
